Industry Council

Tim Winks

Tim Winks is coming to the SEATA conference as head of the industry council this year. This is far from his first conference – he's attended SEATA conferences for the last 15 years (three as a Virginia state delegate, and 12 as an industry council representative with PricewaterhouseCoopers).

When asked what his hobbies are, he says "Golf…," pauses for a very long time, and finishes with "…and yardwork. That's probably about it." Hmmm. Both involve manicured grass. Is there a joke there somewhere?

The only talent he'll admit to is "I'm a whiz at state and local taxes," which, given the fact that his job is consulting with PricewaterhouseCoopers clients on that very subject, would seem to be an important one.

Based on those responses, he leads an ostensibly quiet life, but Tim does let slip one fascinating piece of information: his first paying job involved working with Karl Rove, helping to raise funds for the Virginia Republican Party by manning a phone bank.

When ribbed about what that experience must have been like, Tim laughed, "Actually, [Rove] was a very nice guy."
