Cynthia Underwood has worked with the Alabama Department of Revenue for 25 years in various capacities. In May 2001, Ms. Underwood was named, and currently holds the position of Assistant Commissioner of Revenue. This is the senior merit position within the department. On September 15, 2007, Governor Bob Riley appointed Ms. Underwood as Acting Commissioner of Revenue, a position she held under a previous administration from August 2001 to January 2003.
Cynthia Underwood is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Public Manager (CPM), and an attorney. She is a member of the Alabama Society of CPAs, The Association of Government Accountants, the Alabama Bar Association and the Montgomery County Bar Association.
