
Ray N. Stevens is Director of the South Carolina Department of Revenue, and has been since January 4, 2006. Prior to becoming Director, Mr. Stevens served as a Judge for the South Carolina Administrative Law Court since 1995.
Mr. Stevens' legal experience includes private practice in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he specialized in taxation and corporate law. He also worked in the public sector with the Internal Revenue Service and with the South Carolina Attorney General where he served as the Chief Deputy Attorney General, Tax Division Director.
Mr. Stevens holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, a Masters in Business Administration and a law degree, all from the University of South Carolina. In addition, he received his Master of Law in Taxation from the School of Law of the College of William and Mary.
He is a former Advisory Board Member of Vanderbilt University's Paul J. Hartman State & Local Tax Forum and has spoken at numerous conferences in both the private and public sectors. He has written articles for the Journal of Multistate Taxation, the Interstate Tax Reporter, and Tax Management's Multistate Tax Report.
