
Christopher G. Morris was appointed State Tax Commissioner by Governor Joe Manchin III on October 16, 2007. Prior to serving in this capacity, Mr. Morris served the Department of Revenue in numerous positions including Deputy Cabinet Secretary, Deputy State Tax Commissioner/Chief of Staff of the State Tax Department, and Assistant Secretary for the Department of Tax and Revenue. Mr. Morris has been with the Department since August of 2001 and has been involved with numerous projects including Tax Increment Financing, the West Virginia Economic Development Grant Committee, and the Tax Modernization Project. In November of 2003, Mr. Morris was appointed as the Governor’s Designee and Chairman of the Governor’s Disaster Recovery and reappointed to this position by Governor Manchin in February of 2005.
Morris attended college at West Virginia University, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in 1999 and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration in 2001. While at WVU, Morris taught a graduate level research methods and statistics class and served as a statistical consultant for the WVU Extension Service
Morris resides in Charleston with his wife, Renee and their daughters, Alaina and Kayla.
